Um devastador terremoto de magnitude 6,8 na escala Richter atingiu o Marrocos na noite de sexta-feira (8), com epicentro na cidade de Ighil, localizada a cerca de 70 quilômetros a sudoeste da cidade turística de Marrakech.
De acordo com o Ministério do Interior, os números atualizados revelam que pelo menos 2.862 pessoas perderam a vida e mais de 2.500 ficaram feridas como resultado desse abalo sísmico.
Este terremoto é considerado o mais intenso a afetar o país norte-africano em 120 anos de sua história. Espera-se que o total de vítimas, tanto mortas quanto feridas, aumente à medida que equipes de resgate avançam em direção às regiões mais remotas, situadas nas áreas montanhosas do Marrocos.
As províncias e cidades de Al Haouz, Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Azilal, Chichaoua e Taroudant já relataram fatalidades devido a esse desastre natural, que abalou a nação marroquina.
