Porém, em 2019, a bióloga Wendy Bolaños, então mestranda do Programa de Pós-graduação em Zoologia da Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (Uesc), estudou o sapinho pulga, Brachycephalus pulex, um diminuto anfíbio encontrado apenas em topos de morro na Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural (RPPN) Serra Bonita, em Camacan, e no Parque Nacional Serra das Lontras, em Arataca, ambos no sul da Bahia. Ela mediu e determinou o sexo de 46 exemplares e constatou que o menor macho adulto media apenas 6,45 mm.
